What are Spellamentals?
This video explains the key skills students should build before beginning Spell With Confidence lessons. This is your starting point to ensure all learners are set up for success.
Spellamentals are the fundamentals behind Spell With Confidence, designed to help students build a solid foundation for spelling success. While Spell With Confidence begins at a level where students can confidently control simple phoneme-grapheme correspondences (such as simple consonant digraphs like <th>, <sh>, and <ch> for Word List A) and apply suffixing changes (replace <e>, change <y> to <i>, and doubling) in Word List B, we recognized the need for lessons/activities that come before this stage.
Spellamentals is a resource for educators seeking structured, research-based learning tasks that establish these critical early skills.
What’s included in Spellamentals?
- Focused learning tasks, such as understanding marker <e> and mastering all three suffixing changes
- Visual supports, like anchor charts used in Shari’s classroom, including our popular short vowel chart, to reinforce literacy learning
Spellamentals is a work in progress, and we’re continuously expanding its offerings. Check back often for updates and new resources to support your literacy instruction!
